Why Is Gay Romance Becoming a Phenomenon in France?

If there’s one topic that’s capturing much more attention from authors today, as well as from readers in the LGBT community, it’s undoubtedly the romance between gay men. Gay romance is gaining momentum these days and consequently requires more clarification. It seems quite clear and understandable that some are eager to know where France stands on gay romance and why so many authors are interested in this subject in France.

Homosexuality in French Literature

What you probably already know is that homosexuality or bisexuality are present in literature. It’s a widely discussed topic that has been the subject of great debate, for example in contemporary books. The study of these works has allowed us to understand two ideologies about homosexuality:

– An external point of view treatment, which identifies with the public’s perception of acceptance of homosexuality, likely negative.

– An intimate point of view treatment, which largely evokes the love life and sexual experiences of homosexual or bisexual individuals.

In French general literature, these themes appear in many masterpieces. Indeed, since antiquity, the erotic relationship between men (gay) was perceived as a master/student relationship and therefore did not provoke any controversy. This is reflected in the texts of Plato evoking pederasty. The question of sexual orientation has, however, influenced the entire Western civilization and consequently becomes a question that all authors or writers would like to address.

French Authors’ Perception of Gay Homosexuals: The World of Gay Romance

The question “Is sexual preference an identity?” has not only sparked strong reactions within gay culture but also the claim for homosexual rights. The Taboo of homosexuality became a subject heavily criticized by some, but also supported through a world where gay romance is highly developed. French authors or female authors have finally understood that what readers like about love stories between men is undoubtedly the depth and sensitivity of the male gender. Many readers would like to understand and feel the narrative of self-acceptance as with the books of Steditions

And yet, if these questions continue to create so much controversy and encourage so many authors to fuel their pens with gay sexual orientation, it’s because these same heterosexual people continue to play with irony. And this is undoubtedly a factor that undermines the integration of gays into society, despite the undeniable progress made. It’s simply difficult to be gay in a heterosexual world where living in hiding seems to be imposed. All this suggests discrimination against gays. And this is precisely what the novels of various French writers have responded to. What have these authors done?

Literature seems to be a perfect channel, capable of delivering stories of love between people of the same sex to everyone and in all corners. For several years, romantic relationships have been expanding. A fact that multiplies the number of authors. Note that the various books written by different authors all have the same objective and envision a common result: to use literature to change the archaic and unreasonable mentalities of society, more specifically, of heterosexuals.

It is a fact, a goal that aims to establish a united society devoid of any discrimination regarding sexual orientation. To banish all stereotypes of homophobia, open up all horizons and establish in society a new dynamic of acceptance of LGBT movements and a spirit of sharing.

The Gay Community in France: What Does Didier Lastrade Think?

“Have gays moved to the right?”, this is the question posed to Didier Lastrade to get his perspective on the gay pride in France.

Didier Lastrade is a journalist, activist, and famous writer. He is the author of several books such as Act Up. A History (Donoël, 2000 ) and also, Cheikh. Campaign Journal (Flammarion, 2007) . The author currently lives in Normandy as he left Paris in 2002.

Didier Lastrade, an important figure in the gay community, gave, as we all expected, his version regarding the question. To summarize for you, he tries to explain that for a long time, gays have been perceived as a minority engaged on the left, progressive and tolerant. The prominent and unsettling figure of the gay community continues and affirms that this is no longer the case. Indeed, the famous author attempts to show that in France, racism is gaining ground among gays, and this is also true throughout Europe.

He mentions Europe to focus a bit more on the case of Pim Fortuyn, the openly gay far-right leader in the Netherlands. This may seem new to some, but it is information available to everyone, to say that it is not a secret. Pim Fortuyn’s case seems to attract attention, and although having a heterosexual father, Marine Le Pen has decided to change the game by courting homosexuals. Note that the latter are easily carried away by her fine speech.

Didier Lastrade is far from finished with the question as he continued to deepen his explanations and affirms that in France, the selfishness and lack of scruples of certain gay personalities, to speak of scandals, are revealed to public opinion. For him, the gay elite alienated or obsessed with their money, prestige, and privileges is largely responsible for the shift to the right of gays, symptoms of rampant consumerism and individualism that is taking over society.

In the face of all these situations, could literature answer all the questions? Well, even if the goal is still far from being reached, gay romance has done a tremendous amount for itself in France. A huge effort and contribution to the point of exceeding limits. Could this be seen as an exaggeration on the part of novelists? Your answer could help remedy this deviation.
